FAQ’s: Our CO2 Laser Cutters

Here you'll find answers to some of the most common questions we get asked. When in doubt, our team of laser engineers and sales experts are here to answer any queries you may have.

Can I use my laser cutter at home?

Yes, 100%!

Laser cutters have gained popularity for home use due to their compact and user-friendly designs.

All our Vision laser machines have been designed with safety at their core, making our laser systems an ideal choice for those looking to bring their ideas to life or even start a small-scale manufacturing business from their home.

However, we recommend positioning your CO2 laser in a well-ventilated area and that you invest in an adequate extraction system to remove any harmful fumes produced during the cutting/engraving process.

What is the lifespan of a laser cutter?

The lifespan of a CO2 laser cutter depends mainly on the quality of its components and the care with which it's maintained.

On average, laser cutters from reputable manufacturers, like our Vision Laser Systems, have been designed with decades of industry knowledge using only the highest quality components. So you can expect to use your investment for many, many years.

The laser tube, which is the heart of the machine, typically lasts between 2 and 5 years if you have a DC laser tube (Glass), depending on power output, usage, and maintenance. Replacement laser tubes are readily available.

Additionally, all our Vision Laser Systems have a 2-year machine warranty for added peace of mind. Regular cleaning, careful operation, and routine maintenance are essential to prolong the life of your laser cutter.

How easy is it to operate a laser cutter?

Our compact and user-friendly CO2 lasers offer precision, efficiency, and versatility for professionals and hobbyists alike.

Although operating a CO2 laser system may initially seem daunting, the process is relatively simple. Once your laser machine is installed and aligned, our technicians provide comprehensive 1:1 training.

Operational Training

Our engineers will teach you how to operate your laser machine safely, including understanding the control panel, setting up your materials, and focusing your optics.

Maintenance Training

It is crucial to maintain your laser machine regularly to keep it in optimal condition. Our engineers will demonstrate routine cleaning tasks, aligning the optics, and provide a detailed explanation of each component and its function to ensure you feel comfortable using the machine and making small adjustments to keep your machine in perfect working order.

Software Training

Our skilled technicians will happily assist you in preparing your files and guide you in operating your laser machine to achieve your desired results. We will also advise on the ideal speed and power settings to achieve the desired outcome for cutting, engraving, or scoring specific parts of your design.

We fully appreciate that you aren't going to become an expert overnight, which is why we provide lifetime technical support with all our laser machines. So, if you ever have a question or need help, we're only a phone call, email, or message away. We provide most of our technical support via WhatsApp to make it easy for everyone. This way, you can send any pictures, videos, and even video calls with an engineer to help with any questions.

Why should you upgrade your CO2 laser tube?

Our laser cutters come equipped with a powerful laser tube as standard, which enables you to process a wide range of materials with ease. However, if you choose to upgrade your laser tube, you can enjoy various benefits including increased speed and power, which will enable you to accomplish more in less time. It will also allow you to run your laser tube at lower powers to achieve the same results, and therefore extend the lifetime of your lasertube.

With all our laser systems, we can offer the option to upgrade your laser tube.

How much does a laser cutter cost?

Our laser cutters start from as little as £4,500.00 and come with a 6-month laser tube warranty and a 2-year machine warranty, lifetime technical support, exclusive discounts on spare parts, as well as options for installation and training.

Alternatively, check out our refurbished laser cutters for desktops and standalone systems which also come with a 6-month laser tube warranty, a 1-year machine warranty, and lifetime technical and exclusive discounts on spare parts along with options for installation and training.

Additionally, you can purchase all new and second-hand laser cutters through our financing partners.

Do laser cutters use a lot of electricity?

The amount of electricity a laser cutter uses depends on various factors ranging from the wattage of your laser tube, whether you're laser cutting or engraving a material, your extraction and cooling system, how well you have maintained your machine, and the market cost for electricity per KWH.

CO2 laser machines, however, are relatively efficient when it comes to the amount of electricity they require to operate. You can expect the estimated running costs for a small laser cutter to vary from 0.34p - 0.94p per hour, while a large-format laser cutter can cost anywhere from £1.84 - £3.47 per hour to run on average.

Do I need a fume extractor for my laser cutter?

A laser fume extractor is a device designed to remove harmful fumes and particles emitted during laser cutting, engraving, and marking processes. These systems play a critical role in maintaining a safe and healthy work environment, as they effectively capture fumes at the source and expel them out of your machine. There are two main types for this.

In-line fan kit

Our in-line fan kits allow you to vent from your laser machine straight to the atmosphere using a quiet in-line fan, ducting, and accessories. These are particularly cost effective and can be used in almost all environments.

Fume filtration systems

For those without access to external walls, windows, or ducting, you will be best suited to a fume filtration unit. These units sit next to, and connect directly to your laser machine to draw the fumes and then filter them to push out clean air back into the room. On-going maintenance of these units is simply done by changing the filters when indicated to do so by the unit.

Choosing a suitable extraction system for your laser machine depends on your working environment, the bed size of your laser, the amount of usage you anticipate, and the types of materials you're looking to work with as different materials produce varied types and amounts of fumes and dust.

FAQ’s: Our Refurbished Laser Machines

Buying a refurbished CO2 laser for the first time can be a daunting process, often leaving you with numerous questions. We've addressed some of the common questions we receive from our customers.

What does "refurbished" mean?

At our Focused Laser Systems, "refurbished" means restored to perform like new. Each CO2 laser machine is carefully inspected, deep cleaned, and tested by our experienced engineers. We replace any worn or faulty components, recalibrate the system, and ensure it meets original performance standards before it's approved for resale.

Additionally, all refurbished laser machines are supplied with brand new accessories, full optics, and laser tube for that extra peace of mind.

Why should I choose a refurbished machine instead of a new one?

Refurbished machines deliver professional-grade performance at a fraction of the cost—typically 30–50% less than new models. They're a wise, budget-friendly choice for small businesses, makers, and hobbyists who want reliable results without compromising on quality or features.

Can you source a refurbished laser machine to fit my requirements?

We're in the business of CO2 lasers. We supply a wide range of services, including laser systems, parts, accessories, training, repairs, and servicing, to businesses and individuals across the country.

In the unlikely event we don't have a laser system in stock that will meet your requirements, it's still worth letting us know. We can keep a watchful eye out to find one that will meet your exact specifications.

How do I know your refurbished machines are reliable?

Each of our refurbished laser cutting machines undergoes a comprehensive multi-point inspection and is tested under real-world operating conditions to ensure consistent performance. We back every machine with a one-year warranty and provide lifetime technical support so you can get the most out of your system with total peace of mind.
